Moving into a new year, it's a good time to remind ourselves that Yorkshire is still the county it has been for over 1100 years. It has never been abolished.
New administrative areas were created and came into effect in 1974 but they were never meant to replace counties. The Ridings also still exist, though they lost their County Council status.
All our counties have a special place in the history and traditions of our country. Yorkshire Ridings Society, and similar organisations in other counties, will continue to work for the continued recognition of our counties.
We hope you have a happy and successful year in our wonderful county.
